About Us

Founded in 2004, the New Jersey School of Dramatic Arts (NJSDA) has quickly risen to become New Jersey's premier venue for theatrical education, offering an expansive range of classes that cater to beginners, seasoned performers, and aspiring professionals alike. With a curriculum that blends classical technique, contemporary performance, and industry‑ready skill sets, NJSDA’s students gain the confidence to tackle stage, screen, and commercial work. Our in‑person workshops at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Montclair, coupled with virtual lessons via Zoom, provide flexibility for busy schedules while preserving the intimacy and immediacy that only live instruction can deliver.
NJSDA’s impact extends beyond the classroom. Over 10,000 students—ranging from five‑year‑old beginners to 85‑year‑old seasoned performers—have trained under our faculty, many of whom have gone on to break into film, television, theater, and commercial work. We’ve earned accolades such as Best of Essex for eight consecutive years and have maintained a 100 % student‑retention rate through mentorship, community events, and a supportive network that keeps artists connected long after graduation.
Accessibility remains a cornerstone of NJSDA’s philosophy. With a no‑turn‑away policy for financial assistance, we partner with community foundations, scholarships, and in‑house fundraisers to ensure that talent, not wallet size, dictates admission. Our dynamic schedule—ranging from weekday evening classes to weekend summer camps—accommodates families, working professionals, and full‑time students, allowing anyone with a passion for the arts to transform dreams into performance reality.
Beyond skill acquisition, NJSDA nurtures life‑changing confidence that extends to everyday interactions. Students learn to listen actively, think on their feet, and articulate ideas with clarity—skills that translate to stronger workplace communication, public speaking, and leadership. Our alumni network hosts quarterly masterclasses, networking mixers, and alumni‑only workshops, giving graduates continuous access to industry mentors, casting opportunities, and collaborative projects that keep their careers thriving.
At its core, NJSDA believes every voice deserves to be heard. Whether you dream of a Broadway debut, a television lead, or simply a confident presence on stage, our supportive community empowers you to break barriers, refine your craft, and showcase authentic storytelling that captivates audiences worldwide.
