Founded in 2017 and with the support by Singapore National Eye Centre, Singapore Eye Research Institute and National Health Innovation Centre, Plano launched the world’s first science-based parental control application, planoApp, with a vision to “Keep all eyes healthy in our digitised world”. With more than 1.5 billion people suffering from myopia, also known as short-sightedness, the number is expected to rise to 5 billion by 2050. Plano aims to tackle this epidemic that could see 1 billion people (by 2050) developing high myopia, which can lead to blindness. Studies have shown that excessive smart device use is a key contributing factor.
