The City of White Plains, Westchester County in upstate New York, this past week passed legislation requiring businesses to take necessary precautions to protect wireless networks for accidental or deliberate abuse, according to an article from Internet News. In short, the new law mandates business owners processing customer data over a wireless local area network (WLAN) to employ firewalls, to changing SSID's. While less restrictive on publis hotspots, cafe and hotel business owners, and other similar businesses, will be required to post clearly visible signs reminding end users to turn on persinal firewalls and OS or hardware embedded 802.11 protection.
