The Australian Target Shooters Club is located at the Sydney International Shooting Centre, and was specifically built for the 2000 Olympics. It is a state of the art facility for all types of sports shooting and has ranges named after past Australian shooting champions.It is organisations such as the Australian Target Shooting Club that will find our next Olympic Champions.
There are qualified instructors on site and firearm safety is the first and most important aspect taught. This is followed with familiarisation of the firearm and learning things like how to remove the magazine, open the bolt and check the chamber is clear and fire the trigger.
Once the safety aspect is covered, technique follows. They teach you how to breathe calmly and allow the target to float up and down in the sights, and how to brace yourself to keep the rifle steady.
It is actually a lot harder than it looks, but with steady concentration and lots of practice you soon get the hang of it.
