    The government provides Supplemental Security Income (SSI) for disabled people who cannot work but do not qualify for Social Security because they have not worked long enough.  Disabled children can also qualify for SSI.

What Is the Process for Getting Social Security Disability or SSI?

	Apply for Benefits. Go To Your Local Social Security Office. Call toll-free 800 772-1213.  If deaf or hard of hearing, call TTY 800 325-0778. Apply over the Internet. Online application for Adults. Online application for Children.
	Appeal If Your Application Is Denied. Do not miss the 60-day deadline for appealing. If you filed your application before August 1, 2006, appeal by filling out the form for a Request for Reconsideration. If you filed your application after August 1, 2006, (and you live in Connecticut, Massachusetts, Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, or Rhode Island) appeal by filling out the form for a Request For Review By A Federal Reviewing Official.
	Appeal Again If Your Request for Reconsideration or Request for Review Is Denied. Do not miss the 60-day deadline for appealing. File the form Request for Hearing by Administrative Law Judge. Contact an experienced Social Security Disability attorney to represent you at the hearing.
